The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a crazy bunch to say the least. Attempting to figure out how the night will play out is pretty close to impossible. The Oscar nominations ARE IN! With such a deep field of actors and movies this year, there were sure to be a few snubs and surprises. Birdman and The Grand Budapset Hotel lead with the most nominations, having nine each. Let’s take a look at the major nominees:
Secrets, secrets, and more secrets are one way to explain The Imitation Game. Alan Turing was the man responsible for one of the first computers. Turing unfortunately was not granted the fame and recognition he deserved. His amazing discoveries and mechanical advances were kept as part of a top secret mission during World War II. His story is shared in the film, The Imitation Game. Benedict Cumberbatch and Kiera Knightly star in this World War II biopic doing a wonderful job to capture the over-emotional and high strung situations in The Imitation Game.
Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Micheal Keaton have created a film that will be remembered for ages. Birdman, has put Keaton back on the map, giving him major fuel for an Oscar nomination. Birdman is unlike any other film this season. It is quirky, dramatic, and has its share of comedic moments. While I thought the plot was kind of off, the performances speak for themselves. Birdman is on the path to the Oscars and nothing can get in its way now.
